Ten Basics You Need in Your Closet for Fall
I love outfits that are fun and expressive, but I’ve found myself looking for basics to dress up more often these days. My closet has a ton of fun blazers, jackets, skirts, palazzo pants, etc. While I have a lot of fun pieces in my closet, I’m always reaching for basics to pair with them. When you have a fun pair of pants, you still need the perfect white tee. Quality basics seem hard to find, so after a weekend of searching for the perfect plain white tee to go with everything, I decided to compile a list of all the best basics on the market.
I know it’s after Labor Day and we’re not supposed to be wearing white or anything, but rules were made to be broken, duh! I’m picky about my white tops because I like them really white. These can easily be dressed up or down, and I love tucking them into some distressed denim. When I was at Ada’s two weeks ago, we were sifting through her closet planning out some outfits, and this was one of our favorites. The white top paired with the fun blazer and some distressed denim made for such a cute look!
Black Body Suit
I always opt for a sleeveless bodysuit like this one. These are perfect to wear with a pair of jeans and a leather jacket. You can even easily tuck it into a skirt, or a pair of capris. Even shorts if you live somewhere warm like me.
Fall is definitely my favorite because sweaters are my jam. I love this one with the bell sleeves, as it’s basic and can be worn in various ways, but it’s not too plain.
It's the perfect way to cozy up while still looking put together. I recently purchased a cardigan and a Barefoot Dreams blanket, and another cardigan is next on my list! The cardigans are just like the blankets and the best way to describe them is buttery soft.
Okay so maybe this isn’t super basic, but I can promise you if you have one in your closet, you’ll be constantly reaching for it. Arizona has some weird weather here because you can go from hot to cold or cold to hot in a matter of minutes. Not kidding! I find myself wearing these more in the fall months because they do offer a lot of warmth, and can easily be tied around the waist if you get too toasty. I love the ones from American Eagle because they’re super soft and hold their quality well even after months of wear.
Leather jackets add a little bit of edge to any outfit, and look great with a LBD, bodysuit, jeans, and really anything mentioned in this post. BLANK NYC has great jackets at great price points, and I’ve had mine for years!
Light wash denim jackets are very on-trend right now and are great to add to any outfit. One of my go to outfits is my Spanx leggings and a white tee and my denim jacket. There are so many different denim jackets out there: embellished, distressed, oversized, cropped, you name it. The various styles allow you to spice up any outfit.
If no one has told you yet, you need one (or five) LBDs aka little black dresses. They’re super easy to dress up or down, which we love. I’ve had my eye on this one because it’s perfect for the transition into fall. Throw on a belt, some booties, a flat-brimmed hat and voilà!
These Spanx leather leggings have been my go-to for the last year. They hold everything together and can be dressed up. Wear leggings out and still look dressed up? Sign me up!
My favorite ones right now are these from Kut From The Kloth (and they’re currently on sale). They are seriously the only jeans I’ve ever owned that have a little give but don’t stretch in all the wrong places if you know what I mean. These jeans look and feel amazing, and I love the various styles they have. In the past, I’ve had to cuff my jeans or have them altered because they’re a little longer on my shorter legs, but these hit just right. Needless to say, I’m a total fan of this brand and the pairs I have! Even though we’re still hitting triple-digit heat here in Arizona, they’re what I constantly reach for.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons because it finally starts to cool down here in Arizona and it's finally acceptable to wear oversized sweaters and leggings every day. It's a luxury we have for just a few weeks each year, since you know the desert is mainly toasty.
